Procedure and apparatus for transferring flexible bags filled with an illiquid or liable product from a first container to a second container
Field of the Invention
The present invention concerns a method and an apparatus for transferring flexible bags filled with a liquid product or capable of flowing from a first container to a second container. Typically, the bags contain a flowing material, such as crushed fruit pulp, and are stored in a rigid container that facilitates handling and storage and protects the bag from breakage, tearing, weathering, and other circumstances that could damage the stored product, this container system being known as "bag in box".
State of the art
It is known in the state of the art the use of flexible bags for the storage and transport of flowing materials, typically used to contain food products or processes, such as fruit or vegetable pulp. The bags may have a mouth, or inlet opening that can be provided with a valve, plug, or be heat sealed, and an easy opening system can be provided to facilitate emptying.
When the bags exceed a certain size and weight they are difficult to handle, especially due to their flexible nature and filled with a flowing material. Usually the bags can weigh 200 kg or more.
In addition, the protection offered by the aforementioned bag is limited since said bag can be easily perforated or accidentally torn. In some cases, the bag may not offer enough protection against sunlight, which could degrade some foods. For all these reasons, these large-sized bags are typically stored in a rigid container that protects them and facilitates their handling and storage, for example allowing their stacking.
This product consisting of a bag stored inside a container is known in the sector as "bag in box".

Typically, the container intended to store the bag is a metal drum, as it offers optimal protection, allowing it to be stored outdoors, and the great durability of the drums allows them to be reused multiple times, or stored long periods of time in The weather.
However, the drums eventually oxidize, so it is occasionally required to transfer said bag from a drum that, for whatever reason, has stopped being suitable to another drum, performing said operation manually or with manually manipulated rigs, and with great difficulty and risk of bag breakage.
Another difficulty presented by the solution of storing the bags in drums is that the contained product has to be transported along with the drum from the bag filling plant to the plant where the product stored in the bags is consumed by emptying them. After consumption of the product, the bags can be discarded, but the drums must be stored and returned to the bag filling plant for reuse due to the high cost of the metal drums, which causes high logistic costs.
Alternatively it is known to store the bags in prismatic cardboard boxes preferably of octagonal section, known in the industry with the name of "octabin", "bin box", "bulk box" or "bulk container". The cardboard boxes are composed of example of two opposite octagonal trays, each obtained from the folding and joining of parts of a die-cut plate made of cardboard sheet, corrugated cardboard, plastic, corrugated plastic, or other similar semi-rigid material, the two opposite octagonal trays being connected by an octagonal prismatic tubular body made of an iron of the same material as the trays.
The advantages of using cardboard containers are that they are lighter and cheaper, they can be destroyed and recycled at the plant where the product stored in the bags is consumed, so a logistic is not required to return empty containers to the bag filling plant, and also the cardboard containers can be manufactured on-site at the moment, thus saving! the storage of empty containers which results in lower logistic costs. On the contrary, these cardboard containers cannot be stored outdoors, and have a lower resistance than metal drums, so they allow less stacking.
Automatic transfer of bags from metal drums to cardboard containers is unknown.

Exposition of the invention
According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a method for transferring flexible bags filled with a liquid product or capable of flowing from a first container to a second container, wherein the flexible bag has at one end a base that rests on a bottom of the first container and at another opposite end an opening element adjacent to an upper opening of the first container.
The procedure comprises the steps of:
- flip the first container to remove the flexible bag by gravity by first moving the flexible bag with the opening element in front;
- receive the flexible bag on a support;
- apply a second movement to the flexible bag with the base in front by means of a movement of the support and / or at least one other auxiliary support; and
- insert the flexible bag into the second container by means of the second movement,
whereby the flexible bag is arranged with the base resting on a bottom of the second container and the opening element adjacent to an upper opening of the second container.
Thus, the proposed procedure includes extracting a flexible bag from the inside of a first container by means of flipping the first container causing the extraction of the bag from the inside of said first container due to the effect of gravity by means of a first displacement. The extracted flexible bag is received by a support that holds it. Subsequently, a movement of the support, or of an auxiliary support, applies a second displacement to the flexible bag by which the flexible bag is inserted into a second container.
This method allows a transfer of a flexible bag filled with a liquid product or with a product capable of flowing from a first container to a second container in a safe way. This allows the container to be replaced if it is damaged, or it allows replacing a first container with features, with a second container with different characteristics than the first container.
By way of non-limiting example, it is contemplated that the first container and the second container are a metal or plastic drum, and / or a polygonal cardboard box, preferably with an octagonal base, whereby the described transfer can be made from a drum to a drum , from box to box, from drum to box or from box to drum.

The transfer from drum to box is preferred because it allows replacing a container suitable for outdoor storage with a container suitable for marketing and transport with low logistical costs of the product contained in the flexible bags.
It will be understood that the liquid or flowable product may be any product in liquid, paste, dough, pure, granular, powder, fruit or vegetable pulp, or any other product, whether of food products or for another purpose. Typically, the flexible bags will be large in size, so that once filled with the product, they can weigh more than 100 kg, becoming difficult to handle. In the sector of the technique described here, containers of around 220 liters are being widely used, which entails corresponding bags filled with liquid or material capable of flowing with a weight of up to 200 kg or more.
According to another characteristic of the proposed invention, the step of introducing the flexible bag into the second container comprises tilting the second empty container to receive the flexible bag during the second movement.
Additionally, said support comprises a conveyor that imparts to the flexible bag the first movement by means of conveyor drive means. As an example it is proposed that the support is formed by a conveyor belt
It is also proposed that the step of introducing the flexible bag into the second container comprises using a funnel device to direct the base of the flexible bag towards the upper opening of the second container.
According to another additional feature of the proposed procedure, the step of flipping the first container to remove the flexible bag comprises placing the first container in a turning bracket of a turning device and turning the turning bracket at an angle equal to or greater than 90 degrees by means of drive means of turning device. Preferably the angle will be between 45 and 90 degrees relative to the vertical position of the container.
According to a second embodiment, the proposed procedure comprises the stage of:
- receiving the flexible bag on a conveyor that constitutes the support and which imparts to the flexible bag the first movement by means of conveyor drive means,

Detailed description of some realization examples
The Figures illustrate different embodiments of an apparatus for transferring flexible bags 50 filled with a liquid product or capable of flowing from a first container 1 to a second container 2 according to the present invention. The flexible bag 50 has a base 51 at one end that initially (Figs. 1, 7, 11, 15 and 20) rests on a bottom of the first container 1 and an opening element 52, such as for example a neck closed by a cap, at another opposite end adjacent to an upper opening of the first container 1. Once transferred to the second container 2, the base 51 of the flexible bag 50 must be supported on a bottom of the second container 2 and the adjacent opening element 52 to an upper opening of the second container 2 (Figs. 6, 10, 14, 19 and 21).
In all the illustrated embodiments, the first container 1 is a metal drum and the second container 2 is an octagonal prismatic container made of corrugated cardboard of the type known as "octabin." However, the apparatus of the present invention is also useful for transferring flexible bags 50 filled with a liquid product or capable of flowing from an octagonal prismatic container made of corrugated cardboard to a metal canister, or from a metal canister to another metal canister, or from an octagonal prismatic container made of corrugated cardboard to another octagonal prismatic container made of corrugated cardboard.
Figs. 1 to 6 shows a first essentially simple embodiment of the apparatus of the present invention, which comprises a turning device 10 and a conveyor 12 installed in a structure 30. The turning device 10 is provided with a turning support 11 configured to receive and support both the first container 1 and the second container 2.
Turning device actuation means, such as for example one or more cylinder and piston units 19 driven by dynamic fluid, are operatively connected to the turner the turning support 11 about a horizontal axis between a vertical position (Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 6), in which the first container 1 or the second container 2 disposed on the flip support 11 is in an upright position, a flipped discharge position (Fig. 2), in which the first container 1 arranged on the flip support 11 is inclined more than 90 degrees from the vertical, and an inclined load position (Fig. 5), in which the second container 2 disposed on the flip support 11 is tilted less than 90 degrees Regarding the vertical.
The conveyor 12 comprises, for example, a conveyor belt driven by conveyor drive means, such as for example an electric motor 20,

which can be activated to move the conveyor belt in first and second opposite directions. The conveyor 12 has a receiving and delivery end 12c adjacent and facing the turning device 10.
Initially, a first container 1 loaded with the flexible bag 50 and uncovered is placed on the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 and the turning device driving means are activated to move the turning support 11 and the first container 1 to the flipped discharge position (Fig. 2).
When the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is in the turned off position (Fig. 2), the flexible bag 50 is removed from the first container 1 by gravity making a first displacement in which the flexible bag 50 moves with the opening element 52 in front and is deposited on the conveyor 12 at the same time that the conveyor belt of the conveyor 12 is moved in a first direction by the conveyor drive means in order to impart the first displacement to the flexible bag 50 until that the flexible bag 50 is completely out of the first container 1 and on the conveyor 12.
Next, the conveyor 12 is stopped and the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is returned to the vertical position with the first empty container 1 (Fig. 3). Then the first empty container 1 is replaced in the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 by a second container 2 also empty and uncapped (Fig. 4) and the turning support 11 is moved to the inclined loading position (Fig. 5 ).
When the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is in the inclined loading position (Fig. 5), the conveyor belt of the conveyor 12 is moved in a second direction opposite the first direction by the conveyor drive means in order to of imparting to the flexible bag 50 the second offset with the base 51 in front whereby the flexible bag 50 is transferred from the conveyor 12 to the second container 2 through the receiving and delivery end 12c of the conveyor 12 and the upper opening of the second container 2 until the flexible bag 50 is completely inserted in the second container 2.
Finally, the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is returned to the vertical position (Fig. 6), and the second container 2 loaded with the flexible bag 50 is removed from the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 and closed, so that the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is free to start a new cycle.

Figs. 7 to 10 show a second embodiment comprising a turning device 10, a conveyor 12 and an inclining device 15 installed in a structure 30. The turning device 10 is provided with a turning support 11 configured to receive and support the first container 1 and It has the same characteristics and capabilities as the turning device 10 described above in relation to the first realization.
The tilting device 15 is disposed at a loading site located behind and at a lower level than the turning device 10, and has an inclination support 16 configured to receive and support the second container 2. The inclination support 16 is pivoted around of a horizontal axis by means of actuation of tilting device, such as for example one or more cylinder and piston units 21 driven by dynamic fluid, between a vertical position (Figs. 7, 8 and 10), in which the second container 2 arranged on the tilt support 16 is in a vertical position, and an inclined load position (Fig. 9), in which the second container 2 arranged on the tilt support 16 is in an inclined position less than 90 degrees Regarding the vertical.
The conveyor 12 has a reception and delivery end 12c and is provided with the same characteristics and capabilities as the conveyor 12 described above in relation to the first embodiment, although in this second embodiment the conveyor 12 is mounted on a tilting chassis 31 connected to the structure 30 by means of gluttony comprising a horizontal axis articulation 33 located adjacent to one end of the conveyor 12 opposite the reception and delivery end 12c. Position change actuation means, such as for example one or more cylinder and piston units 22 driven by dynamic fluid, pivot the conveyor 12 around the horizontal axis articulation 33 between a reception position (Figs. 7 and 8 ), in which the reception and delivery end 12c of the conveyor 12 is adjacent and faces the turning device 10, and a delivery position (Figs. 9 and 10), in which the reception and delivery end 12c of the conveyor 12 It is adjacent and facing the tilting device 15.
With the apparatus according to this second embodiment, the procedure comprises, firstly, placing a first container 1 loaded with the flexible bag 50 and uncapped on the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 (Fig. 7), and then activating the means of actuation of a turning device to move the turning support 11 and the first container 1 to the turned off position (Fig. 8) to remove by gravity the flexible bag 50 of the first container 1 by means of a first movement in which the

flexible bag 50 moves with the opening element 52 in front and is deposited on the conveyor 12 at the same time that the conveyor belt of the conveyor 12 is moved in a first direction by the conveyor drive means in order to impart to the flexible bag 50 the first movement until the flexible bag 50 is completely out of the first container 1 and on the conveyor 12.
Next, the conveyor 12 is stopped and a second empty and uncapped container 2 is placed in the tilting support 16 of the tilting device 15 (Fig. 8). Then, the tilting support 16 of the tilting device 15 is moved by the tilting device actuation means to the inclined loading position while the flipping support 11 of the turning device 10 is maintained in the turned unloading position so as not to interfere, and The tilting chassis 31 together with the conveyor 12 is pivoted by the position change drive means from the reception position to the delivery position (Fig. 9).
From this situation, the conveyor belt of the conveyor 12 is moved in a second direction opposite to the first direction by the conveyor drive means in order to impart to the flexible bag 50 the second offset with the base 51 in front by which the flexible bag 50 is transferred from the conveyor 12 to the second container 2 through the receiving and delivery end 12c of the conveyor 12 and the upper opening of the second container 2 until the flexible bag 50 is fully inserted into the second container 2.
Finally, the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 and the tilting support 16 of the tilting device 15 return their respective vertical positions (Fig. 10), so that the first empty container 1 can be removed from the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 and the second container 2 loaded with the flexible bag 50 can be removed from the tilting support 16 of the tilting device 15 and closed.

The loading site, that is, the tilting device 15, is associated with a funnel device 17 that directs the base 51 of the flexible bag 50 towards the upper opening of the second container 2 disposed in the tilting support 16 of the tilting device 15 when in the inclined load position. In this fourth embodiment, the funnel device 17 is in the form of a hollow half cone, with an inlet opening wider than an outlet opening, and is fixed to the structure 30 in a position superimposed on a section of the adjacent third conveyor 14 to the tilting device 15.
Alternatively, the funnel device 17 could be fixed to the tilting support 16 of the tilting device 15, or it could be mounted on a mobile support (not shown) driven by means of actuating funnel device to move the funnel device 17 enters a withdrawn position and a working position, which would allow it, for example, to apply the funnel device 17 to the apparatus of the first embodiment.
The turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is associated with a first container supply conveyor 36 through which the first containers 1 loaded with flexible bags 15 are supplied to the turning device 10 and a first container evacuation conveyor 37 through from which the first containers 1 vacuums are evacuated from the turning device 10.
The tilt support 16 of the tilting device 15 is associated with a second container supply conveyor 38 through which the second empty containers 2 are supplied to the tilting device 15 and a second container evacuation conveyor 39 through which the second Containers 2 loaded with flexible bags 15 are evacuated from the tilting device 15.
The aforementioned supply and evacuation conveyor 36, 37, 38, 39 are, for example, roller conveyors and swing support 11 of the turning device 10 and the inclination support 16 of the tilting device 15 are provided with respective parallel roller platforms to the rollers of the first container supply conveyor 36 and the second container evacuation conveyor 39, respectively.
With the apparatus of this fourth embodiment, the procedure is analogous to that described above in relation to the third embodiment, except that the change of position of the second conveyor 13 implies a translation in a direction transverse to the direction of
movement of the conveyor belt instead of a tilt with respect to an axis

horizontal, and in which the second conveyor 13 transfers the flexible bag 50 to the third conveyor 14 instead of the second container 2, and it is the third conveyor 14 that finally transfers the flexible bag 50 into the second container 2 through the end delivery 14b of the third conveyor 14 and of the upper opening of the second container 2 until the flexible bag 50 is fully inserted in the second container 2.
Figs. 20 and 21 show a fifth embodiment of the apparatus of the present invention comprising a turning device 10, a first conveyor 12, a second conveyor 13, a third conveyor 14 and an inclining device 15 installed in a structure 30. The turning device 10, the first conveyor 12, the third conveyor 14 and the tilting device 15 has the same characteristics and capabilities as the turning device 10, first conveyor 12, third conveyor 14 and tilting device 15 described above in relation to the fourth embodiment, although in this fifth embodiment the first conveyor 12 and the third conveyor 14 are arranged at a right angle to each other and at the same level. The second conveyor 13 is mobile and is arranged at the same level as the first and third conveyors 12, 14.
The second conveyor 13 comprises, for example, a conveyor belt driven by second conveyor drive means, such as an electric motor (not shown), and is provided with the same characteristics and capabilities as the conveyor 12 described above in relation to the fourth embodiment, although in this fifth embodiment the second conveyor 13 is mounted on a rotating platform 40 connected to the structure by means of gluttony comprising circular guides (not shown) around which the mobile chassis 35 can be rotated with respect to to a vertical axis. The second conveyor 13 has a reception and delivery end 13c.
Position change actuation means, such as for example an electric motor (not shown), rotate the turntable 40 together with the second conveyor 13 around the circular guides between a receiving position (Fig. 20), in which the reception and delivery end 13c of the second conveyor 13 is adjacent and faces the delivery end 12b of the first conveyor 12, and a delivery position (Fig. 21), in which the reception and delivery end 13c of the second Conveyor 13 is adjacent and faces the receiving end 14a of the third conveyor 14.

To facilitate the sliding by gravity of the flexible bag 50 during its removal from the first container 1, the turning support 11 of the turning device 10 is connected to vibration means including, for example, a vibrating device 41, so that the vibration of the turning support 11 is transmitted to the first container 1 disposed thereon. This vibrating device 41 may include, for example, an eccentric rotating mass, a cam and follower mechanism, or a crank and connecting rod mechanism, and is actuated by vibrator drive means, such as for example an electric motor or a dynamic fluid actuator (not shown).
In order to avoid folds that can end in tearing of the flexible bag (50) during its extraction from the first container 1, the first conveyor 12 is associated with fastening and guiding means comprising, for example illustrated in Figs. 20 and 21, two pairs of clamps 42 installed on respective sliding carriages 43 along glues 44 parallel to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt of the first conveyor 12 and located on both sides thereof. The carriages 43 are moved along the glides 44 by carriage driving means, such as one or more electric motors or one or more dynamic fluid actuators (not shown), and the clamps are opened and closed by means of clamp drive, such as electric motors or dynamic fluid actuators (not shown).
Preferably, the clamps 42 are mounted on the carriages 43 by means of retractable devices (not shown) that remove the clamps 42 from the path of the flexible bag 50 when the flexible bag 50 is completely deposited on the first conveyor 12.
After turning the first container 1, and preferably after the flexible bag 50 has come into contact with the first conveyor 12, the clamps 42 grip portions of the flexible bag 50 adjacent to the opening element 52 and the carriages 44 are displaced along the glues 44 accompanying the first displacement of the flexible bag 50.
Optionally, the clamps 42 incorporate a force sensor (not shown) whereby the clamps 42 cease to hold or the carriage driving means cease to act when the force exerted by the clamps 42 as detected by the force sensor is brings, meets or exceeds a known tension that is capable of supporting the material of the flexible bag 50. This force sensor can be, for example, a device that in
function of the displacement of a spring of known elastic constant, opens the clamps 42 when the force exerted exceeds a predetermined value. In another embodiment, the force detector may include a dynamometer or a load cell.
With the apparatus of this fifth embodiment the procedure is analogous to that described above 5 in relation to the fourth embodiment, except that the change of position of the second conveyor 13 implies a rotation with respect to a vertical axis instead of a translation in one direction transverse to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt.
It will be understood that the vibration means and / or the fastening and guiding means are applicable to any of the possible embodiments of the apparatus of the present invention.
10 With the apparatus and method of any of the embodiments of the present invention, the flexible bag 50 is disposed in the second container 2 in the same position as it was in the first container 1, that is, with the base 51 resting on the bottom of the second container 2 and the opening element 52 adjacent to the upper opening of the second container 2.
